Chinese restaurant Red Stixs may lose its Midtown location.
“They were hit with an eviction notice after failing to pay rent for six months. They’re probably going to have to close,” said one source.
A different source claimed the eatery stopped paying rent after shelling out “a few hundred thousand” for repairs due to fire damage from a neighbor, adding, “There is a situation with the landlord. There are discrepancies in the rent . . . negotiations aren’t complete, so they may close and reopen in another location in September. But there’s still a chance it can be rectified.”
In December, a server accused an owner, Michael Reda, of threatening to stick a fork in his neck for defecting to a rival restaurant.
Reda’s partner David Lee confirmed the rent woes, but told us, “We’re still open for business.”
