Warner Bros.’ is not only one of this year’s most highly-anticipated movies, but it also sets up the studio’s massive movie universe, which is currently slated to run until 2020. While hasn’t screened for the press yet, a new report from Hitfix claims that a select few have seen the movie, and the response wasn’t what the studio hoped for. Here’s what Hitfix‘s had to say, teasing that it could alter the massive slate of movies that will follow.
“Warner is a little bit worried. This movie is starting to scare them. It’s scaring them because they’re showing it to people now, people are actually laying eyes on the film now, and the response has not been what I think they wanted. If I were going to lay a bat on how it may happen, Suicide Squad, they’ll go all-in on. They’ll push all their chips in on that and I think Suicide Squad‘s going to be a hit for them. I think Wonder Woman will be finished the way they’re working on it right now and they’ll release it. I would be surprised if Justice League starts shooting when they say it’s going to, and I would be equally surprised if Zack Snyder directed it.”
Back in November, producer Charles Roven revealed that production on Justice League Part 1 will begin in the “first or second quarter” of this year, with the producer also debunking a report that claimed both Justice League Part 1 and Justice League Part 2 will be shot back to back. It’s worth noting that Henry Cavill has already started training for the movie, but we haven’t gotten a confirmed production start date for Justice League Part 1 yet. also theorized that Warner Bros. may even push Justice League Part 1 in favor of another project.
“My guess is what’s going to happen is based on what I’m hearing… I’ve talked to enough people who have seen the film now that I’m starting to sweat a little, is Justice League is going to get moved back and that Ben Affleck Batman movie, that’s what’s going to end up in that spot. My guess is they’re going to throw whatever money it takes at Ben Affleck to make that Batman film happen sooner rather than later. They’re going to need to rebuild again, they’re going to need to win people over, they’re going to need to lay some different groundwork. I don’t think this is going to be the springboard into the Justice League that they wanted it to be.”
Of course, we don’t have any confirmation from Warner Bros. that or their DC universe is in “trouble,” but that isn’t something the studio would confirm anyway. With the release of just over one month away, we’ll find out soon enough if this adventure is a hit at the box office, and with fans and critics alike. We reported earlier this month that the movie is projected to take in $154 million on opening weekend, which is far from any sort of record, but is still a healthy opening weekend.
