The Israel Museum has announced the appointment of Dan Handel as curator of design and architecture. Handel, a curator, critic, and professor at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, is also a founding editor of Manifest, an annual journal covering American urbanism and architecture.

Handel co-curated the Israel Pavilion for the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2012, which later traveled to the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and to the Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York City.In a statement, James S. Snyder, the Israel Museum’s director, said:

“Dan brings with him a cross-disciplinary expertise and a professional background both in Israel and internationally that will enable him to advance the Museum’s local and global perspective in the rapidly changing fields of architecture and design. His vision as a curator is deepened by a strong grounding in contemporary visual culture, and we are delighted to broaden our curatorial reach with his special combination of talents.”

In his new role, which will begin this June, Handel will lead the museum’s design and architecture department, and will “further [develop] its unique international perspective from the vantage point of the disciplines of design and architecture,” according to a press release.
