Ted Cruz has made it clear over and over that his “New York values” criticism was aimed at the liberal policies governing the state, but pundits on two separate networks tonight said there was something anti-Semitic about it.
On CNN tonight, Jeffrey Toobin told Wolf Blitzer he thinks Cruz’s line will hurt him, calling it a clear “anti-Semitic trope” considering that Cruz specifically said New York is “focused around the money and the media.”
Blitzer pointed out Cruz’s argument about his meaning, but Toobin insisted, “Money and media is Jews. I mean, this is just an old-fashioned anti-Semitic stereotype, derogatory term, and everyone understands that.”
Over on Fox hours later, Geraldo Rivera made the same argument to Bill O’Reilly about the “stinking anti-Semitic implications” of what Cruz was saying.

O’Reilly called it bull and said Cruz was clearly talking about liberal policies. Rivera said Cruz chose not to and chose his words “very cunningly and he’s gonna pay the price.”
