As arguably the most famous transgender woman in the world, Caitlyn Jenner has become a spokeswoman for the global trans community. Although her path to spokeswoman has been at times fraught – with some feeling that she’s not representative of trans women everywhere – nonetheless the fact remains that Jenner’s celebrity has helped forge greater awareness of trans issues within mainstream society.
Now the former Olympian and reality TV star is turning her hand to cosmetic pursuits. Jenner has announced that she will be the face of a new MAC lipstick – which, aptly enough, is called ‘Finally Free’. After announcing the news on her Twitter, Jenner gave an interview with MAC in which she explained that the name ‘Finally Free’ represented her new-found approach to life. “No more secrets. I’m free. I woke up the other morning, and I was just happy. Getting dressed, going out, I’m accepted in the world; people are nice. Life is good. I’m Finally Free.”
Proceeds from the lipstick, which is being launched on April 7, will go towards supporting the M•A•C AIDS Fund Transgender Initiative, which works to support transgender lives. MAC has form when it comes to its charity work: its long running VIVA Glam campaign was formerly fronted by drag queen RuPaul and supports global efforts to end HIV/Aids.
Oh, and if you were wondering what colour the lipstick is, it’s a ‘rosy nude’ which is designed to be worn everyday.
