Vanessa Hudgens Takes the Lead in DC TV Show 'Powerless'

While we’re just a few months away from Warner Bros. launching their movie universe, a new project is moving forward on the small screen, which puts a new spin on the superhero landscape. Back in August, NBC issued a pilot production commitment for a workplace comedy entitled . Now TV Line reports the potential series has added its first cast member, . The series is set at one of the worst insurance companies in America, which is set within the universe.

will play Emily Locke, a claims adjuster who loves her job because it gives her the ability to help people in need. She becomes increasingly frustrated by the destructive antics of various DC heroes in her city. The project will be a half-hour single-camera from creator Ben Queen, who previously created NBC’s short-lived sitcom A to Z.

Deadline‘s report on the series from August compared the project to NBC’s iconic sitcom The Office, but with superheroes. The show will focus on Emily and others who don’t have superpowers, who reside in a world populated by superheroes and villains. The site’s August report claimed that fans shouldn’t expect DC’s biggest heroes like Batman and Superman, but there will be some as-of-yet undetermined DC characters appearing on the show.

Back in October, it was announced that Marvel is developing its own comedy series at ABC entitled Damage Control, which, like , is set in a world of superheroes. This series follows the crew assigned to clean up the wreckage after various disasters caused by the heroes. It isn’t known when that series will start production, or when it may debut on ABC, but we also reported last month that the network is working on a second, unannounced comedy project.

If moves forward to series, it will be ‘ first regular TV series role. The actress is coming off a critically-acclaimed performance as Rizzo on Fox’s Grease: Live last month.
