Following the release of the Super Bowl trailer for director Jon Favreau’s forthcoming live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book, viewers have now been given more than a passing glimpse behind the motion-capture spectacle that will reach theaters this April. After introducing viewers more formally to the film’s cast of characters, moviegoers are undoubtedly eager to learn more about just where they can expect to see the film’s young hero Mowgli (Neel Sethi) go in the film proper.
As a partial answer to said question, distributor Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures has just released another TV spot which also aired during the Super Bowl 50 event – highlighting even more action scenes from the upcoming film.
The 30 second Jungle Book clip in question can be viewed in full, above. Standing as a supplement to the far more extensive feature length trailer, the TV spot shows Mowgli on the run from the fearsome man-hating Bengal tiger Shere Khan (voiced by Idris Elba), before the young boy comes across such massive legends as the treacherous python Kaa (Scarlett Johansson), the smooth talking orangutan King Louie (Christopher Walken), and the friendly brown bear Baloo (Bill Murray).
Based on all of the footage released and compiled thus far, it would appear as though Favreau and Disney have truly delivered something quiet special in their special effects-laden reboot of The Jungle Book property. And recasting the original animated feature (itself, of course, based on author Rudyard Kipling’s novel of the same name) with such a star-studded cast as this one can only help the film reach a wider audience, when it finally sees theatrical release in three months time.
Whether or not Favreau’s The Jungle Book will serve to reinvigorate the long dormant franchise before the release of first-time director Andy Serkis’ likeminded Jungle Book: Origins sees release next year remains to be seen. But for now it would appear that Disney has been able to manage the potentially complicated feat of bringing an old classic from the animated feature film canon back to life for a whole new generation of viewers.
The Jungle Book will see theatrical release in the U.S. on April 15th, 2016.
