It was a shocking turn of events for residents of Bloomfield, a town known to be centered around football. TJ Mitchell was an 18-year old student at Bloomfield High School who made good grades and had a bright future. He was also the football team’s captain. By all accounts, Mitchell came from a good family who instilled good values in him, leading many to believe that something else had to have taken place for him to pull out a knife and stab someone to death. What many couldn’t understand was how and why it all happened. They say Ronald Taylor was like a mentor to young Tarence—an older guy who seemed like a ‘cool’ friend.

At trial, defense attorneys allege that the young lad killed the older gay man in self defense after years of abuse. They also allege the terrible events evolved after Ronald Taylor texted TJ Mitchell, telling him that he was coming over. He also posted a message on Facebook stating that it wouldn’t “end well.”

Family members of Ronald Taylor believe that Tarence ‘TJ’ Mitchell killed Taylor in anger after he ‘outed’ the Bloomfield High School football star on Facebook by posting a photo and a link to a blog that stated that Mitchell was gay—a fact that threatened Mitchell’s entire football career and reputation with the girls.
