Updated 5 May 2016: The OnePlus 3 is expected to feature Oppo’s VOOC fast-charging technology, which could see its battery fully recharge in just 15 minutes!
OnePlus 3 UK release date and price rumours: When is the OnePlus 3 coming out? How much will the OnePlus 3 cost?
We don’t have an exact release date just yet, but we do know the OnePlus 3 will be announced very soon, and most rumours point to 18 May 2016 with an early June onsale date. The OnePlus 2 was announced on 28 July 2015, and the OnePlus X on 29 October 2015. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has already been posting pictures we reckon were taken using the OnePlus 3’s camera, so it must be somewhere near completion.
According to GizmoChina, which quotes an alleged OnePlus employee, the OnePlus 3 will cost from 1,999 Yuan for the 4GB RAM, 32GB storage model. This converts to roughly £210.68. A 6GB RAM, 64GB storage model will be priced a little higher.
OnePlus 3 specifications and feature rumours
An AnTuTu benchmark (pictured below) has surfaced showcasing a massive 6GB RAM capacity. We expect to see several variants of the OnePlus 3, with a 4GB RAM version that comes with both 32GB and 64GB internal storage, and a 6GB RAM phone with 64GB internal storage.
According to Mobile-Dad, the OnePlus 3 will be among several 2016 flagships to run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which sounds very likely. This is a 64-bit quad-core chip that offers heaps more performance and better battery efficiency, plus it builds in support for the newest Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and Adreno 530 graphics. Also see: OnePlus One review.
Mobile-Dad says the OnePlus 3 will have a full-HD (1080p) display, which does make sense if OnePlus is to continue offering excellent-value smartphones with high-end specs and mid-range prices. Also see: OnePlus Power Bank review.
The latest leak suggests the OnePlus 3 will feature Oppo’s VOOC fast-charging technology, which could potentially recharge its 3500mAh battery in just 15 minutes! This news comes via GizmoChina, which says a OnePlus A3000 with 5V/4A (20W) fast-charging tech has just been certified in China.
OnePlus 3 pictures: OnePlus 3 renders leak online
Tne following images were leaked online by Mobile-Dad in December. Note that they are not photos but renders, which are sometimes nothing more than an artist’s impression partly of what they think we’ll see and partly of what they want to see.
Should the renders be realistic, it looks as though OnePlus will favour the smooth finish of the OnePlus X over the sandpaper-like OnePlus X, and we’ll see white and black models. Also see: OnePlus X vs OnePlus 2.
Notable is the loss of the Home button, which previously had a fingerprint scanner built-in. There’s no sign of this on the rear, either, suggesting OnePlus has either gone down the Sony route and built it into the power button, or it’s ditched it completely – perhaps in favour of iris-scanning as we are increasingly seeing in Chinese phones.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has also posted a picture (via GizmoChina) that we reckon were taken using the OnePlus 3’s camera – click to enlarge.
We’ll update this article with more information on the OnePlus 3 as we hear it.
