The ‘Dark Phoenix’ saga is arguably considered the greatest “X-Men” storyline of them all, and Bryan Singer established elements of it throughout the first two films in the series. Unfortunately he jumped ship, leaving Brett Ratner to realise it (poorly) on screen in the maligned “X-Men: The Last Stand”.
Now though, with the series having effectively reset its continuity in the wake of “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” it looks like another shot at the storyline may take place. Heroic Hollywood reports that according to their sources the next non-spinoff “X-Men” movie will be based on the Dark Phoenix saga.
It will be altered from both the way it first played out in the movies and in the comics as Wolverine won’t be a part of the action. Producer Simon Kinberg earlier this year said the storyline is fair game: “it would absolutely be a story we could tell in a different way.”
Bryan Singer also hinted that Sophie Turner’s young Jean Grey and the potential darker and more powerful being inside her will be teased in next month’s “X-Men: Apocalypse”.
