As only the second movie in the DC Extended Universe, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is giving the audiences a lot of heroes. In addition to the eponymous protagonists duking it out and then making up, Wonder Woman will also play a key role. Beyond the DC Trinity, there are also confirmed appearances from Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg, giving us most of the members of the soon-to-be-seen Justice League. However, when it comes to those latter three, don’t expect them to be on screen for long.
Director Zack Snyder recently stopped by Blog Talk Radio’s Hall of Justice podcast to talk about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and when talking about Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg, he admitted that their roles will be minuscule compared to the movie’s A-level players. He explained:
As far as the other Justice League characters go, they play a very small role. It’s really just a whisper they exist. Except for Wonder Woman, we see her really well. But really the movie is about Batman and Superman. And we really take time with them and we really drill down on the why of them and what they stand for and their beliefs and them as characters. That’s pretty much the why of the movie. But again as I said, it does begin the conversation about these guys are out there.
For the past year, there have been numerous claims that the other three Justice Leaguers wouldn’t play a significant role in the March blockbuster, so this doesn’t come as complete surprise. Last June, it was reported that Aquaman and Flash would appear on security footage that Batman finds, the Jason Momoa’s King of Atlantis trapped in a containment chamber and the Scarlet Speedster merely a blur while stopping a convince store robbery. More recently, it was said that Aquaman would be “drawn into the proceedings,” while Ezra Miller will appear out of costume as Barry Allen. There’s been no been word on how Ray Fisher’s Cyborg fits into the picture. Specifically, the questions is if he’ll already be a superhero or just plain Victor Stone, like at the start of the New 52’s opening Justice League arc.
There’s not even a guarantee that we’ll see Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg in the movie itself. A rumor back in December stated that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will have a sequence that sets up Justice League: Part One in the closing credits, similar to how Watchmen’s opening credits set up that world. This would be DC’s alternative to the post-credits scenes Marvel loves to use. It has yet to be confirmed whether the closing credits will be this exciting, but whether we see these other heroes during the movie or after, their presence will basically just be cameos.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, but when it comes to Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg, don’t expect to see them fully in action until Justice League: Part One is released on November 17, 2017.
