Channing Tatum knows how to keep his fans happy. The star of box office hits Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL announced that he would keep the film franchise alive with a live Las Vegas show entitled Magic Mike Live. As reported by Us Magazine, the 36 year-old actor and star of both Magic Mike movies broke the news earlier this evening through a video he produced with Cosmopolitan.
“We’re going to start Magic Mike Live in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock March 2017,” Tatum said in the video. “God knows we have enough gentlemen clubs in the world so let’s start the first gentle-ladies club — or, maybe not so gentle. Depends on what you’re into.”
In an innovative twist to the forthcoming production, Channing Tatum is opening up a discussion with fans as to how Magic Mike Live will be presented, encouraging folks to leave comments about what they would like to see. But some of the show’s proverbial nuts and bolts have already been put into place, according to a press release quoted by USA Today.
“The experience starts as you enter Club Domina, a real life version of the club at the foundation of Magic Mike XXL, where men cater to women’s desires. The fully re-envisioned cabaret nightclub space will be unlike any other in Las Vegas with three elaborately designed bars, an integrated stage and seating for 450 guests.”
The statement went on to tout Magic Mike Live as a “sizzling 360-degree dance and acrobatic strip tease spectacular, guaranteed to bring on the heat.”
Released in 2012, the first Magic Mike was a box office smash, grossing over $113 million in the United States alone, according to the Internet Movie Database. Channing Tatum was nominated for a People’s Choice Award in the category of Favorite Dramatic Actor and he also received nominations for Best Male Performance and Best Shirtless Performance at the MTV Movie Awards. The film was also nominated for a number of other awards and co-star Matthew McConaughey won an award for Best Supporting Actor through his work on the film.
Magic Mike XXL hit theaters in 2015 and grossed over $66 million in the United States. The cast for the much-awaited sequel featured former WWE wrestler Kevin Nash in the role of “Tarzan” and actor Joe Manganiello reprising his Magic Mike role as “Big Dick Richie.” Magic Mike XXL was not met with the kind of critical acclaim garnered by its predecessor, although Channing Tatum did win a Teen Choice Award in the category of Choice Summer Movie Star for his depiction of Magic Mike.
Despite his experience in playing the title role for both Magic Mike movies, Channing Tatum has indicated that he will not strut his stuff as a regular cast member in the forthcoming Vegas show. He does, however, promise a “hands on” role in the show and given his performance in the aforementioned Cosmopolitan video, the actor knows a thing or two about how to make his audience sit up and pay attention. After all, he brought out an eclectic supporting cast for the Magic Mike Live announcement, flanked by a coterie of shirtless men and a small herd of playful puppies. It’s all part of a vibe that is both unabashedly naughty while decidedly tongue-in-cheek.
Magic Mike Live is scheduled to debut in March of next year, according to People Magazine. Joining Channing Tatum in the development of the show is Alison Faulk, who choreographed dance sequences for the Magic Mike movies.
