Megyn Kelly had Anderson Cooper on her show Thursday night for a candid, revealing conversation that touched on their respective backgrounds and their careers in the cable news industry.
Cooper was on to promote his latest book The Rainbow Comes and Goes, co-written with his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, the scion of one of New York City’s and America’s most influential families. Its release is concurrent with an HBO documentary Nothing Left Unsaid, which examines Vanderbilt’s life and careers, and will re-air on CNN Friday.

“There are limitless possibilities if you just work incredibly hard,” Cooper said, reflecting on the death of his father and brother — and what drove him to reach the apex of his industry.
“You think we’re looking to fill a void that is unfillable?” asked Kelly, whose father also died when she was young.

Cooper said that people who lost parents when they were young were impelled by a constant drive that left one never content.
